CURLED WALKING STICKS

AND WALKING CANES

I Ask To Be No Man, Other Than The Man I Am

Honey Suckle vines grow around small trees, as the tree grows the vine causes the tree to twist or curl.  After ten or twelve years the stick can be made into a Curled Walking Stick or Cane.

People often want to know how I find so many curled sticks?

The answer is, walking for hours and hours in the woods searching for curled sticks.  Often I will find curled stick, but the stick is to large a diameter, to small a diameter, not enough curls, stick is rotten, I mean most of the time something wrong with the stick.   Most people have never seen a curled or twisted stick growing in the woods, because they are rare to find.

The sticks are cut in the coldest days of winter and allowed to dry in the barn loft for nearly two years, before being made into Curled Walking Sticks.  If you purchase a Curled Walking Stick or Curled Walking Cane, add a couple of grizzly bear claws onto the leather strap and you will have a walking stick sure to gather attention.

First written mention, if somewhat circumstantial of walking sticks, can be found in the Old Testament's Book of Genesis where the story of Cain and Abel unfolds. Cain used a stick to kill his brother Abel, and some people have ventured to suggest that the word "cane" was thusly derived.
